Application context

The treatment problem

Mining water may contain suspended mineral solids, dissolved metals, hardness, sulfate, silica, reagents or high salinity. Composition varies with ore, extraction method, rainfall and site-water balance.

Membranes can support solid-liquid separation or desalination, but metals precipitation, scaling control and concentrate handling must be designed separately.

Important: Mineralogy and geochemistry are site-specific. Do not assume a membrane alone controls dissolved metals or acid mine drainage.

Mining wastewater membrane FAQ

Can ceramic membranes remove dissolved metals?

Not directly when metals remain dissolved. Chemical precipitation or another conversion step may be required before membrane separation.

Can RO recover all mine water?

Recovery is constrained by scaling, osmotic pressure, pretreatment and concentrate management.

Why is mineralogy important?

It influences particle abrasiveness, dissolved species, scaling and the required chemical treatment.
